About the Center

Introduction

Welcome to the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Bernardsville!

At the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Bernardsville, we strive to be the leading supplemental educational resource in the community. Our Center focus is on drawing out the excellence that we believe is in every student through the use of the simple and proven Kumon Method. We are committed to fostering academic success through an active learning partnership that includes student, family, center and community. We will help children acquire a clear sense of personal and academic independence they may become highly successful self-sufficient learners.

Kumon students attend the Center once or twice per week, selecting from Mondays to Thursdays between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Students enrolled in either Math or Reading spend approximately 30 minutes at the Kumon Center, and 10-20 minutes of study per day at home. Both Math and Reading can be studied in tandem -- the time commitment for dual-subject study is 20-40 minutes of study per day at home and 45-60 minutes at the Center.

Price and Fees

Our specific rates are provided to parents during orientation, and we are significantly less expensive than private tutors and other types of tutoring programs in the area. Our mission at Kumon is to bring the Kumon Method of Learning to as many students as possible, and therefore, we keep our pricing reasonable.

There is no charge for placement testing, and we do not ask parents to pay a fee to learn the results of the tests. There is a one-time registration fee and a one-time materials fee, which are discussed at the orientation. We can generally start students in the program within the same week as the placement tests.

Policies

VACATION
Planning and organizing work for your child takes a great deal of thought and organization. We require at least two week’s notice before any extended absence in order to put your child’s vacation packet together.

ABSENCE POLICY
Please note that students may be absent from Kumon study for no more than one continuous month. After more than one month of absence, when the student resumes, he/she will be considered as "discontinued" and the registration fee applicable at that time will be charged and placement test re-administered. All existing Kumon points will also be lost.

TERMINATION POLICY
If a student is going to drop out of class, either temporarily or indefinitely, a written notice is required. Full tuition is charged for all subsequent months until 30 days written notice is given to terminate enrollment. We would need a written notice by 10th of the previous month for the following month. (Ex. Notify us by Jan 10th for a the month of February)

HOME GRADING
We encourage parents to grade their child’s Kumon worksheets completed at home and the students to correct all mistakes before bringing them back to the center. This ensures that the students receive immediate feedback on their work and make corrections early in the process, before mistakes become problematic and hinder progress. To aid the process of home grading, we offer grading training sessions for parents as necessary and provide parents answer booklets. If you encounter any problems while home grading, we encourage you to set up an appointment with Mrs.Sweety to discuss the matter.
