About the Centre

Introduction

Welcome to our Kumon Math and Reading Centre. For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program.

Policies

Continuous Learning

Kumon is a year-round program. It is important that our students continue their Kumon studies throughout the year, including the summer, so that they can keep up with a consistent study habit as well as advance to more challenging materials as soon as possible. Hence, we require a minimum of one-year commitment to the Kumon program so that parents and students can understand the full benefits of long-term studies.

Centre Closure

We will notify all students and parents about centre closures at least a week in advance. We will provide sufficient homework for all students to do over this period. Students will be notified and will receive homework during those days.

Vacation / Classwork Pick Up

Students and parents may pick up work during class hours if, for some reason, you cannot stay for the class. For longer periods of absence, please try your best to notify us at least two weeks prior so we can have sufficient time to plan and prepare work for your child to do during your vacation.

Communications

Communication is an important element of your child’s learning journey. We provide positive and constructive feedback for our students during class. We highly encourage parents to do the same at home and celebrate their child’s success. We try our best to reserve our class hours fpr working and observing our students. If you have comments or questions regarding your child’s work, please do not hesitate to contact us via written notes, phone calls, or email outside of class hours. Our quarterly newsletters will also be emailed to you to keep you updated of our centre happenings.

No Make-Up Classes

Due to staffing, student scheduling, and limited seating, we do not provide make-up classes for students who have missed their regular classes. We encourage parents to call or email us (preferably outside of class hours) to notify us if their child cannot attend class. We can prepare your child's homework to be picked up in the mailbox located outside of our centre.
