About Your Instructor
Yuka Higashide
My name is Yuka Higashide and I am the Lanakila Kumon center instructor. I was born and raised in Japan and have been living in Hawaii for over 25 years. I have a bachelor’s degree from Chaminade University of Honolulu and am a certified TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) instructor. I have taught immigrant elementary school students as well as Japanese elementary and middle school students. With my Japanese educational background, I have a deep respect for the Kumon Method, which was originally developed in Japan by Mr. Kumon. I strongly believe that children can overcome challenges and gain confidence, which I personally experienced as a child. Each child has tremendous potential, and I truly enjoy seeing their growth and improvement.
Lanakila Kumon has a wonderful team. We have a bilingual Chinese/English assistant teacher who completed all Kumon levels as a student. Our other assistant teachers include retired, substitute, and current assistant teachers from elementary and middle schools. We are committed to supporting every child and helping them succeed not only academically, but also in life.
I look forward to meeting your family and working together to support your child’s success!
**The languages spoken at Lanakila center include Japanese, Chinese, and some Korean.
