Commitment Policy:
To receive full benefits from Kumon, we recommend a minimum of TWELVE MONTHS of uninterrupted study. Many students study at Kumon for two to five years. The Kumon program is designed for long-term study, rather than a “quick-fix” solution.
*IMPORTANT* We require a 30-day written notice from parents who wish to take the maximum one-month break, withdraw from the program, or transfer to another Kumon Centre. Kumon North America permits students to be absent for one month per calendar year. This means that no work is given, and they are away from the Centre for one month.
Absences longer or more frequent than this will result in the student being discontinued from the program.
Class Expectations and Etiquette:
Submitting Homework: All homework is returned each class, even if some homework is incomplete. Pencil only please!
Classroom Etiquette: Water bottles are fine. Cell phones should be turned off or set to silent.
Independent Learning: We encourage students to read over the instructions, follow the examples and attempt to answer the questions independently. We give students time to try to figure it out and try it on their own before we assist them. This is intentional so they become relaxed about being able to figure it out themselves.
Home Checking, and Marking with Home Correction:
IMPORTANT: Parents and guardians: Please flip through the Kumon assignments each day. This daily check will keep your child both on track and accountable to you, and will provide you with an important understanding of their progress.
Daily home marking and correction is not mandatory but is encouraged so students can receive immediate feedback and immediately correct their homework. Home correction helps the student to avoid making the same errors. Please ask us about taking answer books home.
Parent Communication:
Please let Centre staff know how your child is finding their Kumon studies at home. If they are struggling or if you have any concerns, please let us know. Your child’s continued success with their Kumon studies will keep them motivated, making it important to deal with any small issues immediately.
Awards & Recognition:
Our Student Award Event takes place every November.
Library and Learning Materials Loan:
All students can take out books from our Centre’s library. All our books are organized by reading level for our Reading Program. Parents can ask for a copy of the Recommended Reading List to refer to. We encourage you to take the list to the public library and find even more books for your child to read.
Books per loan: 1 book at a time
Loan period: Maximum two weeks
We also lend out answer books for home grading. These materials are loaned out on an individual basis as needed.
For lost library books and answer books: flat fee of $10. For lost solution manuals: fee of $30.
