About the Centre

Introduction

At the Kumon Math and Reading Centre of Mississauga - Creditview/Britannia, we are dedicated to fully pursuing the potential of each student. As Kumon Instructors, we provide enough guidance for our students to be able to do the assignments on their own. As a result, our students build self-esteem and develop the ability to take on new challenges for themselves. We at Kumon always have, and always will place the utmost importance on continuing to learn. We are located in the East Credit neighbourhood near Heartland Town Centre and Streetsville.

Kumon of Mississauga - Creditview/Britannia has proudly served our community for 28 years!

Kumon is so much more than just tutoring! Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. Click her for more information about the Kumon Math Program, click here.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. Click here for more information about the Kumon Reading Program, click here.

Policies

CLASS SCHEDULE & ATTENDANCE

Students are scheduled to attend class at the Centre twice a week for about a half hour per subject and are given short daily assignments to complete at home.

Parents may pick up their children’s homework during class hours in case of unplanned absence. Since missed classes cannot be made up, students will not receive over and above their original daily work assignment. For longer periods of absence, please try your best to notify us at least two days prior so we can have sufficient time to plan and prepare work for your child to do during your vacation. If a student is absent for more than one month per calendar year, the student must pay the enrollment fee and complete a placement test upon returning to any Kumon Centre.

CONTINUOUS LEARNING

Kumon is a year-round program. It is important that our students continue their Kumon studies throughout the year, including the summer, to maintain consistent study habits and advance to more challenging materials as soon as possible. Hence, we recommend a minimum of a one-year commitment in the Kumon program so that parents and students can see the full benefits of long-term study.

CLASS RULES

  • Students are expected to arrive to class prepared with sharpened pencils, erasers, and their homework.
  • Students are expected to attend class and be ready to work. This means that students visit the restroom and get a drink of water prior to beginning their work.
  • Students are required to behave in a respectful manner at the Kumon Centre – in the classroom and the Parent Waiting Area. This includes using good manners, a quiet voice, and not being unruly.
  • It is always important to remember that students are studying and their time here must be respected. Students who are unable to follow the rules will be asked to leave the class in order to maintain the learning environment.
  • In order to maintain an atmosphere conducive to study, we request that only students enter the classroom. Parents are asked to remain in the Parent Waiting Area while the class is in session.
  • Personal electronic devices and toys are NOT allowed in the classroom.
  • Due to allergies and sensitivities, NO FOOD OR DRINKS (except for water) are allowed in the classroom.
  • Parents of Early Learner students (Kindergarten to Grade 1) must wait in the Parent Waiting Area for the entire time their child is attending class.

FOR COMMENTS, QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS

Communication is an important element of your child’s learning journey. We provide positive and constructive feedback during class to our students. We highly encourage parents to do the same at home and celebrate your child’s success. We try our best to reserve our class hours for working and observing our students. Your comments or questions are always welcome and your child's progress is always our highest priority. Parents are kindly requested to refrain from coming into the classroom while it is in progress. Please understand that our class time is dedicated to the students. Instead, you are encouraged to send written notes, call us at (289) 329-9700 ext. 2 or, more preferably, email us at [email protected]. The front desk will be able to assist with most inquiries.

Please let the front desk know if you would like a progress report or a meeting to discuss how your child is progressing. Parent meetings are held by appointment outside of regular class hours.

SAFETY AND LIABILITY
It is important that children are supervised at all times. The Creditview Kumon Centre does not take any responsibility for students’ safety after they have completed their classwork and leave the Centre. Parents must ensure your children’s safety by picking them up promptly after class. The parent and/or guardian shall be liable for any damages and injuries caused by their children to other persons, the Kumon Centre, or the premises in which the Centre is located. The Instructors are not liable for any Kumon student outside the Centre facility or after the student leaves the Centre.
