The Weston & Major Mackenzie Kumon Centre is an after-school learning centre, which offers programs in both mathematics and reading using the Kumon Method. Kumon is the largest provider of after-school math and reading programs in the world, with centres in forty-nine countries.
Students range in ages from 3-18 years old, and the ability spectrum of these students varies from identified learning disabled to highly gifted.
We have established centres and have provided learning skills in math and reading to the community with much success.
The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus.
The Kumon Reading Program begins with phonics and progresses through advanced reading comprehension and Shakespeare.
We are committed to seeing our students advance and gain confidence!
We have an excellent Early Learners Program which employs a structured and successful process for teaching young preschoolers to Grade 1 in learning to read or master their numbers in math.
This systematic approach and the specially trained staff give children a head start in school. Once the child graduates from the Early Learners program, they will transition smoothly into the main classroom.
The best time to start your child in Kumon is when they are younger (preschool to Grade 8), so they can gain the confidence and skills before High School and learn the core foundations in both math and reading.
MATH - if a student needs their fingers to add or a calculator to do basic math, then it is almost certain they will struggle with the more advanced math functions and concepts.
We have achieved excellent results in making children comfortable with core foundations first before going on to the higher-level math.
The ease with which Kumon students routinely learn to perform basic operations is perhaps the most dramatic testament to the effectiveness of the Kumon Method. Building self-confidence is the first step in our program - and with confidence comes success!
READING - whether the child is learning to read or advancing up to Shakespeare, our centre has transformed non-readers to readers and students who could not comprehend to students who have graduated from the Kumon Reading Program reading Shakespeare and critically analyzing passages.
We have had multiple Program Completers over the years and a very high ratio of advanced students!
We normally hold placement tests on Saturday mornings at 9 am. There will also be a detailed orientation where we will provide you will a full explanation of the program and give you the test results for free!
Please call for an appointment and tell us whether you would like your child tested for math, reading (or both!), along with the grade level your child is currently in.
