CLASS SCHEDULE
-
Our class times at the Kumon Center of Hilliard are Monday and Thursday from 3:30 pm until 7:30 pm. Please make sure students arrive at the Center with enough time to complete their work within these hours.
-
Each scheduled session is approximately 20 – 30 minutes per subject. Session time is dependent upon the child’s work for that day. Each student will complete the work at their own pace so there are times they will complete it in under 20 minutes or over 30 minutes.
-
All Kumon students are recommended to attend two scheduled sessions per week.
-
We will schedule an appropriate time for the child. Please be sure to bring them on time.
CENTER STUDY SESSION
-
Parents must wait for their child in the waiting room if the student is below 10 years old. Drop off/ pick up option is only for students aged above 10. If you think your child needs supervision regardless of age, we recommend that you stay in the waiting area.
-
No cell phones, games, music, food or drinks are permitted in the main classroom. Electronic devices are only permitted in the waiting area as long as there is no excessive noise and headphones are used.
-
Only students may enter the Kumon main class area.
-
During the Kumon Center session, please leave a note regarding your comment, question or request. Kumon Instructor will not talk to parents during Class hours. The Kumon Instructor will respond to you as soon as possible.
HOMEWORK
-
All homework is to be completed, marked by a parent or guardian, and corrected on a daily basis (preferably with a red pen, but not pencil). This saves the student from having to spend an hour or more at the Center (while you wait) doing corrections from the previous week. More importantly, if the student does not do his/her corrections daily at home, he/she may continue making the same mistake through several sets and may have to repeat that work again later to “unlearn” the mistake he/she has made consistently.
-
It is VERY IMPORTANT that students record their starting and finishing times. This, in addition to the accuracy of the work, helps the Kumon Instructor monitor the student’s progress. Home-grading guidelines for both Math & Reading are available and are provided to all new families when you enroll (it’s a good idea to review these guidelines periodically). Make sure to grade each day’s assignment and then check that corrections have been completed.
-
Make sure your child completes the homework daily.
-
Make sure they complete the work themselves. In Kumon, children have the luxury of being able to spend as much time as is necessary to master a concept, as measured by accuracy and speed. Giving them the answers or doing the work for them ultimately compromises student’s progress, as they will not learn concepts necessary to succeed at higher levels.
-
Be on the lookout for students copying answers from the answer books or using calculators in math problems. Keep these items out of your child’s possession during “Kumon time.”
-
Answer books are the property of the Kumon Center of Hilliard. Please handle them with care. Answer books are to be handed in once the student graduates to the next level. An answer book for the new level will be given to replace the old book.
-
You must return the answer book once you complete the level and move to the next level.
