Every child can progress independently and excel in learning, no matter what kind of school challenges they might face, including:

• Specific problems with any school subject
• Needing greater challenges than their school provides
• A lack of motivation or discipline
• Learning difficulties

The entire process begins with your child. Kumon instructors develop an individual learning program just for them. The program is built in such a way that it progresses at the speed your child needs according to his or her abilities. Instructors are always keeping an eye on their students’ progress so that they can make any adjustments needed throughout the process.

All tests and homework are graded at Kumon, and students have the opportunity to personally talk to their instructors about what they missed and learn not just what the right answer is, but also why it is the right answer. Instructors will also teach students how to set realistic goals that also present a challenge.

1. Learning begins with a solid foundation at a level where the student is already comfortable. This empowers the student and builds a sense of confidence before the real challenges begin.
2. The pace is set according to each student’s ability level so that they are intellectually stimulated rather than overwhelmed with information. They move ahead at their own pace rather than a pace set by a large group.
3. The learning process is broken up into small steps that each student can achieve on their own, taking as much or as little time as they need. Thanks to the confidence they built in the beginning of the process, they are now able to take these small steps confidently without the help of their instructor. Every little bit of progress encourages them to expand their horizons even more.
4. Kumon instructors do more than just brush the surface with each lesson. Students don’t move on to the next one until they demonstrate a complete understanding of the concept. Material is repeated if necessary until they know it well. Retention is the goal and an important part of the Kumon process.
5. With every success, students find more and more confidence, which compels them to look for the next challenge and embrace it eagerly. Ownership of learning is essential to urging students to uncover every bit of their potential.
6. Daily Practice: The daily work is not meant to place a big burden on the student. Only 15 – 30 minutes is required per subject each day. Just like it takes a little practice every day to develop piano, language, or soccer skills, Kumon is most effective when work is done each and every day.

The instructor will prepare an individualized lesson plan for your kids and support them as they progress through Kumon.
