– Kumon, the world’s largest after-school math and reading franchise, has been ranked sixth on Entrepreneur Magazine’s annual Top Global Franchises list. That’s nine spots up from 2016.
To compile the ranking, Entrepreneur took each company’s 2017 Franchise 500 score, then adjusted it to give extra weight to international size and growth.
Kumon has a massive global footprint with more than four million students studying at nearly 25,000 learning centers worldwide. Recently, its operations expanded from locations in 49 countries and regions to 50.
“Being recognized as the top global education franchise is a testament to Kumon’s rich history and dedication to the supplemental education industry for more than 50 years,” said Larry Lambert, vice president of franchise recruitment at Kumon North America, Inc. “We are proud to be in the same company as some of the world’s most recognizable brands.”
Earlier this year, Kumon North America was recognized as the number one tutoring franchise in Entrepreneur’s annual Franchise 500 issue for the 16th consecutive year.
Kumon opened 72 franchises in the United States in 2016 and plans to add 100 more this year. There are more than 280,000 subject enrollments at 1,500 learning centers throughout the country.
Outside of Japan, where the learning program was founded, Kumon North America has the second largest enrollment of students with more than 400,000 subject enrollments.
