The English Program is designed to enable students to understand what they read, and also aims to develop an ability to listen to and understand English expressions. Daily English Worksheets will take about 30 minutes to complete- in two sessions a week at a Kumon center, and another five assignments completed at home. Your child will work at his or her own pace, mastering each new English concept by listening to audio tracks daily. Kumon parents ultimately find their children mastering new concepts while working independently.
In the first levels of the program, your child will develop a clear and defined pronunciation through daily practice with the audio tracks. In this stage, the students listen to the words in English and practice imitating them so that, over time, they can say them themselves. Following the audio in a consistent way helps students develop concentration and good rhythm.
Your early reader will need additional guidance in completing English Worksheets. Two days a week at the Kumon Center, an instructor will be there to provide help with worksheets. At home, you’ll assist in the completion of worksheets during the 30 minutes a day of Kumon English time.
Step by step, students are able to complete more complex exercises and increase their concentration. Your child's confidence will increase with every English Worksheet and you’ll see continued success and satisfaction.
Building strong English reading and writing comprehension from an early age will prepare your child to advance through elementary school with confidence and appreciation for learning a foreign language.
A Kumon Instructor will assess your child’s current reading skills and introduce the appropriate level of Kumon English Worksheets. This provides just the right start for building comprehension and writing skills.
As each worksheet is completed, you’ll see your child building a stronger English vocabulary, the ability to construct sentences, and more thorough understanding of the proper use of grammar.
As your child approaches high school, the Kumon English Language Program continues to develop reading comprehension while learning some specific gramatical elements of more complex sentences.
Through the study of advanced world-famous literary works (Pinocchio, Treasure Island and Oliver Twist), and from non-literary texts, your child will develop strong reading comprehension and writing skills. The student internalizes the worksheet structure by listening to the audio tracks daily and responding to questions.
With each new advanced reading and comprehension skill, you’ll know you’re helping provide the tools your child needs to excel in the classroom. Your child will learn more than 450,000 frequenty used English words by the time he completes the program.
