When your child joined Kumon, the Instructor carefully assessed their abilities and placed them at a comfortable starting point. This helps build a foundation without tears or frustration, easing them into the daily habit of practicing math and reading. Clear progress goals and roadmaps can increase motivation. Knowing what’s ahead and how long it will take provides structure and purpose. Just remember—patience remains essential, especially when encountering the repetition needed to build mastery with each concept. Reach out to your child’s Instructor to discuss current and future goals: getting on the same page will help everyone progress smoothly and consistently.
The Power of Praise
Specific, timely praise can be a game-changer. It boosts motivation, confidence, and resilience. A simple, genuine comment like, “Great job completing your Kumon today—I know it’s been a busy week and I’m proud you made the time,” can make a significant difference. Ask your Instructor how to offer meaningful encouragement at home that supports progress and motivation; they praise students, including your own, daily and can share effective strategies.
