From Curiosity to Confidence: Kallen’s Kumon Story
At just 10 years old, Kallen has already been a Kumon student for more than seven years, and his enthusiasm for learning continues to grow. Currently studying Level I in math and Level CII in reading, Kallen’s dedication has helped him build a strong academic foundation and an impressive sense of confidence that shines both inside and outside the classroom.
“I’m really proud of being advanced in math and being able to help my friends in school when they need help,” Kallen shared. His mother, Suzette, added, “Kallen understands and completes his classroom math assignments with such ease. Because of Kumon, he’s studying math concepts years ahead of his classmates and has the confidence to help others.”
A Passion for Learning and Challenge
Kallen loves discovering new concepts, and math has become one of his favorite parts of his daily routine. “My favorite thing about Kumon is that I get to learn new things like square roots in Level I,” he said. Suzette recalls that excitement starting early: “When Kallen was younger, he would watch his older brother work on multiplication and fractions and say, ‘I can’t wait to do that math!’”
That curiosity and motivation have only grown stronger over time. “Kumon makes school easy for me, especially in math,” Kallen explained. “It’s easy for me to understand whatever my teacher is teaching us.”
Suzette agrees that Kumon has helped Kallen develop more than just academic skills. “He’s confident, independent, and responsible. We rarely have to remind him of his chores or routine, he just gets things done,” she said. “Kumon has taught him that consistent effort pays off.”
Staying Motivated and Finding Balance
Like many students, Kallen sometimes faces challenging moments, but he’s learned how to push forward. “Playing games after Kumon helps me to be motivated. I just want to finish my Kumon fast so I can play outside or play video games”.
Suzette credits their family’s supportive approach for helping him stay consistent. “We know it is not easy being a Kumon student, so we try to keep things positive. Sometimes, to help keep him motivated, we’ll treat him with his favorite boba drink or go out for Yogurtland as a reward for working hard. Kallen knows Kumon is part of our daily routine, and that mindset has made a big difference”.
Lessons Beyond the Worksheets
Kallen’s Kumon journey has also shaped how he approaches everyday life. “Doing Kumon every day is not fun, but it teaches me that if I do the hard work now, it will pay off later,” he reflected.
That mindset shows in his activities beyond academics. Kallen enjoys playing soccer, badminton, and pickleball, and dreams of becoming a professional soccer player one day. “He really wants to be the next Cristiano Ronaldo,” said Suzette. “And if that doesn’t work out, he’s already thinking ahead. He wants to be a real estate investor like his dad and grandpa.”
Looking Ahead
Kallen’s story began before he could even enroll. “When he was little, he’d wait for his older siblings at the Center and say, ‘I can’t wait to do Kumon,’” Suzette remembered. “Fast forward to today, he’s confident, independent, and thriving. Kumon has helped make learning part of who he is.”
When asked what advice he’d give to a new Kumon student, Kallen keeps it simple: “Just do your Kumon fast and get it out of the way so you can play and do the fun stuff.” Behind that lighthearted answer is a powerful truth—Kallen already understands that discipline and persistence turn effort into achievement.
As he continues through his Kumon journey, both in math and reading, there’s no doubt that Kallen’s curiosity and drive will continue to take him far, on the field, in school, and beyond.
