“Give it a try! Or you will never discover your true potential.”- Toru Kumon

The Kumon Method holds the key to unlocking the potential of students of all ages. When children discover their own potential, they also begin to gain intangible skills like improved focus and time management, and even experience a boost in their confidence and self-esteem.

By building the confidence in students at an early age, they become motivated to reach their goals and learn to take on challenges both in and out of the classroom with ease. A student’s confidence in their own ability can pave the way to academic success and will develop a love for learning.

Here are ways Kumon can help your child gain the confidence they need to succeed in school and beyond:

1. Achieving Milestones and Setting Goals

By teaching children to take small steps towards their goals, it ultimately builds their confidence and gives them a sense of accomplishment. This keeps your child motivated to move forward even when facing a challenge. Whether a student advanced to completing 10-worksheets a day, or reached the milestone of becoming a Kumon Math Program completer, their confidence will soar and they will feel like they can accomplish anything they set their mind to.

2. Recognizing Praise

Praise is a great way to motivate and empower students. In addition, meaningful feedback can also play an important role in the development of children. Specific praise helps nurture the confidence we see in self-learners and can help identify a child’s capabilities and give them something to build upon. If we want to develop specific skills in our students, even our praise should have a purpose and be meaningful like, “You read that passage clearly, and remembered to pause at the commas. Great job!” By praising achievements, we help identify student’s capabilities and give them something to build upon. When used effectively, praise can boost children’s self-esteem, confidence, and perseverance through any challenge.

3. Becoming Self-Learners

Kumon encourages our students to become self-learners and to always seek learning opportunities. When a student develops the ability to self-learn, they can study any subject confidently and independently.

4. Beyond the Classroom

It’s safe to say that Kumon Students around the world continue to achieve greatness and will always strive to do their best. Building confidence in students often stretches beyond the classroom and helps them excel in their extra-curricular activities. From earning a black belt in taekwondo, or even mastering a new song on the piano, their confidence will propel them to great heights. Students will feel more confident and more willing to give new things a try while applying their self-learning skills.
